I need then name of a few Gothic writers.?
Gothic writing is dreary and depressing fictional stories. I need to know some author's names. I have Stephen King and Emily Brontee. Any others?
I need then name of a few Gothic writers.?
My dear that is such a bad generalization to describe Gothic fiction! It is so much more than dreary and depressing. The genre began with Horace Walpole's The Castle of Otranto in 1764. Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, Poe, Elizabeth Gaskell, The Brontes, Oscar Wilde, Charles Dickens, Henry James, Robert Lewis Stevenson, Ambrose Bierce all produced work in the genre. Today, the most prevelant example is probably Toni Morrison's Beloved - although Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Joe Hill (Stephen's son) and many others experiment with the genre. One of my novels happens to be Gothic - true to the traditional Gothic elements.
There are a very specific list of guidelines that makes a book Gothic.

Gothic literature is anything BUT depressing! Pax-C
Reply:Edgar Allen Poe, Charles Dickens,Gustavo Adolfo Becquer,Catherine Crowe,Guy de Maupassant. Some of these are old but I hope they help!
Reply:The Monk by Mathew Gregory Lewis
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen is sort of a parody of the Gothic. You might enjoy it.
William Faulkner's work often uses Gothic elements. Absalom, Absalom is a good example.
The Scoobey Doo TV series was also a parody of the Gothic.
Reply:Emily Bronte is a good choice.
As you've been told, Ann Radcliffe and Mary Shelley are, too.
I believe both Charlotte Bronte's (like Jane Eyre) and Ann Bronte's (like The Tenant of Wildfell Hall) works also have that Gothic feel to them.
The House of the Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne also has Gothic elements.
There is also:
-The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux
-A Long Fatal Love Chase by Louisa May Alcott
-The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole (probably the 1st Gothic but somewhat different than others)
-Edgar Allan Poe's tales would fall into the Gothic definition (The Fall of the House of Usher, for instance)
-The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
-Dracula by Bram Stoker
-The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
-The Turn of the Screw by Henry James
-Daphne du Maurier's books like Rebecca have some Gothic elements, too.
-Another more modern writer whose works could fall into the Gothic category would be Victoria Holt. Though her works are romantic suspense, there is often the Gothic element included.
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen is a really good satire of the Gothic fiction so popular in her day. The book even mentions The Mysteries of Udolpho.
I hope that helps.
Reply:I don't know if I'd consider Stephen King gothic, but there's Ann Radcliff and Mary Shelley.

Goth shops tend to be quite specialised. But hey, Primark have a wide selection of clothes and I'm sure they have some things with skulls on.
It's unlikely you do of course, but if you live anywhere near Manchester in the UK there's Afflecks Palace which is practically dedicated to that kind of clothing..

Gothic baby names...?
Me and my boyfriend are both Goths and we would like to give our child a name that reflects our culture. We have already two names from each gender that we have thought long and hard about:
For a boy it will be Shadow Bones or Draven Krueger
For a girl it will be November Lily or Chaos Moon
The baby's last name will be Darnell.
Which out of the two do you prefer, or which do you think would be accepted more into society? Do not suggest any other names, and if you are going to ridicule these names then I don’t want you answering. This is my child!
Gothic baby names...?
I don't like Krueger, only because some moron is going to assume you named him after Freddy Jrueger, and thereby assume you aren't being genuine or aren't truly "practicing" your lifestyle. What I mean is that some schmuck is gonna assume you listen to HateBreed and wear fishnets from Hot Topic.
I'm really hoping this isn't the "goth" lifestyle you prescribe to.
That said, I like November Lily, I also like the idea of Lily Moon, that's super cute. I also like Shadow, but the same thing goes for Bones. I think its a stretch. People are retarded, you may have the best intentions with choosing a name, but never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.
Reply:Shadow Bones: Shadow is a pet name, Bones makes it teasable
Draven Kreuger: Draven is okay, but is the goth name of choice, making it less unique. Kreuger is awful because of the movie association.
November Lily: Pretty, but everyone will ask her if she was born in November. Then they will be confused.
Chaos Moon: Moon is a pretty middle name, but Chaos has such a negative meaning. :(
If you are open to suggestion, how about:
Desdemona Nyx
Solstice Raven
Pandora Onyx
Draco Gryphon
Nicodemus Danior
Samhain Odin
Good luck, and I hope this helps! :)
Reply:November Lily is quite nice, although normally I'm averse to having two English words together.
I think Shadow, Bones, Chaos and Moon are definately a bad idea
If I had to choose, I'd pick Draven Krueger and November Lily.
I know you don't want suggestions, but I thought Eris (Greek goddess of strife and discord) might be an alternative to Chaos. What do you think?
Reply:Draven Krueger and November Lily...As for the remark about it being your baby....yes it is YOUR baby, and YOUR baby will have to live with this name for the rest of their life, not you. Don't forget to think about how society will treat your child, not that it should matter too much, but they will have to go to school, and kids can sometimes be cruel.
Reply:i really like the fact that you are putting your culture in your baby'sn name. For your little guy I really like Draven and Shadow. I am just not sure about Bones for a middle name. Do you like Draven Shadow?
and for a little girl I LOVE November Liliy. I wouldnt change anything.
hey, I know someone names Wednesday (and she was born on a monday)
good luck and congrats!
Reply:Well...Personally I think that Shadow Bones sounds like a comic book charachter, a fictitious character. Draven Krueger is much nicer.
For a girl, November Lily is a really nice name.
I also googled "Gothic baby names" and here is what popped up. Maybe you'd like to check it out.

Reply:I can respect that you guys want to honor your culture. I think Draven Krueger and November Lily will cause your child less stress. Shadow and Chaos might be a little toooo out there, and I'm sorry, but I don't like Bones at all.
I actually really love Draven and November Lily though, very cute. Good luck!
Reply:November Lily OH YEAH and she is right. that is just like us Christians naming our babies Heaven or a name from the bible, what if our children grow up and at the age of like 30 decide to be atheist? Although we dont hold the same beliefs I do not see ANYTHING wrong with you naming your child to reflect your religious belief.
Oh yeah, If the child hates his/her name so much she/he can and will change it when he/she gets old enough to do so.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND CONGRATS ON THE BABY
Reply:My favorites are:

We are naming our daughter Salem Kaine and get a lot of crap from people. They either love it or hate it and say it sounds evil. Name them what you want and know that you've chosen what you two like the best.

Reply:I DO NOT LIKE BONES please no. thats like look at me i like bones. Shadow Darkness. Also what if your child is preppy, I recommend Lilith it's gothic and it means devil and if it is preppy it can go by Lily

Reply:Being Goth is not a culture!!! It is a trend. Being Goth does not make you different, it just makes you like all the other Goths. Trust me. I know. Also, why would you give your child a name that automatically makes him a target for mean children??? You are setting up another child to become a misguided, social outcast. Haven't you done enough by getting knocked up out of wedlock?
Reply:Umm, what if your kid doesnt want to be a goth. You need to let him or her choose their own future, and not decide it for them.

Reply:Not alot to be really honest. Try some of the celtic names they are quite nice.
Reply:I can't be bothered to read the whole list, but the ones I have read are horrible.....
Tsunami?? Really?
Reply:How bitter are you? I like traditional names too, but we get your point. Jeez.
Reply:Wow! That's a long list of very mysterious and interesting names - I shall offer my views on one or two from each set.
I love "Aura" for its connotations and spiritual meaning - it seems a very positive choice to me. Autumn is becomming more popular nowadays but I much prefer it to "Summer" or even the most recently trendy "Winter".
Babylon and Battle verge on the side of being ridiculous as baby names to me but I do like "Blade" for a little boy - possibly as a middle name.
Calamity is rather unfortunate and suggests to me 'disaster' or 'accident' as its use in the English language. I would avoid!! Chalys and Cyan work best on this list.
Personally, I do not see baby name potential in any of the "D" choices there.
Ebony, Ember and Essence are all pretty in their own right, my favourite perhaps being "Essence". It looks lovely and flows wonderfully when read aloud.
Garnet from your "G" list may work at a push, but I would avoid Gotham and Gusty personally!
Kandyl is a pretty name in theory - but when spoken reminds me of the object - a candle - every time I say it.
Lacey has always been a popular girl's name, Lucifer has great connotations with the Devil in most societies and "Lore" is quite fascinating ... :]
Mercy may be mistaken for a nickname to Mercedes - just a head's up here.
Noire is pretty and mysterious - a lovely choice - perhaps my favourite so far from all of them!
Pandora is a little 'too much' whereas "Pardon and Pentecost" seem a little far-fetched. The ideas behind these are imaginiative though.
Solstice may work well for a little girl, as may Willow which I think is very pretty whilst remaining practical.
Reply:Names are one of the first impressions someone has of humans. In business it is what goes on your card. You shake a hand and introduce yourself as (my name is) It goes on every application on line one. With that in mind pick a name that may truly be Gothic and at the same time appreciated by the public at large. Forest, Autumn, Jett, Grey, Payne. These names are from you list and still very acceptable to the general public. Stay true to yourself but always add some common sense.
Reply:Taken all together, they do sound pretty gothic, but in isolation there are quite a few names that would work well. I would avoid giving a child a name with a generally negative or extremely dark association -- non-gothic people may not respond so well to a child named "Calamity" or "Hades."
Still, here are some that I think could work:
The nature names:
Belladonna, Forest, Ivy, Luna, Rain, Snow, Willow, Ember, Talon, Stone, Steele, Blade, Granite
The color names:
Cyan, Jett, Silver, Noire, Ivory, Garnet, Grey, Blue, Scarlet
The calendar names:
January, February, October, November, December, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Autumn, Winter, Solstice
The "positive" names:
Aura, Tranquility, Mercy, Lore, Journey, Bliss, Fate, Echo, Essence, Haven, Kindred
Reply:there are quite a few of them i like acutally :)...one name in particular i like is DAMIEN...not sure where it originated from but i love it :) i had decided if i was going to have a boy i was going to name him damien blui (blui pronounced like the color)...(and for anyone out there who says its a name for satan or satans son, are so wrong some people say its the devils name and i say they watch to much of the omen series...) im sorry but this is just my opinion...

I'm sorry but I cannot help you here. Well maybe a little bit but not for the "Gothic" thing because I don't believe in 'Tagging' people. Like "Prep" and "Gothic" and "Emo". Because people are people no matter what they do. Emo and Gothic and Prep genres of music but immature, stupid, people made them taggs for 'Different' people. You know, people not like everyone else. Of coarse everyone is their own person so you cannot expect them to act the same. But besides that piont, how about Helena Jane? Or Helena Niki [Nichole].

Gothic names.................?
Are there any names that you see as gothic? I don't mean anything made up, just slightly unusual real names. I'm not planning to use them for a child, I'm just curious! If you could give first and middle name combinations that would be great!
